Resolution 1.1. on fair trade in order to prevent local strikes

1.       Deplores lack of action by Developed States towards  ‘dumping’ and lifting barriers in  times of need Development States.

5.       Strongly urgers States  to allow United Nations Inspection Teams (UNIT) on their territory in order to investigate levels of unfairness and to monitor and detect possible breaches of this resolution by States where suspicion of ‘dumping’ exists:

This year for the first time in the history of the Hogeschool Rotterdam, location Museumpark, they recreated the General Assembly of the United Nations.

The 50 students who were delegates arrived at 9 o’clock for the first instructions, there nametag and a hot cup of coffee.

The First speaker started at half past 9. The delegates and the chair went over the rules one more time with the Secretary General. Finally for the exciting students the commissions started at half past 10. There were three different commissions the students/delegates were placed in.

The Committee’s that the school have chosen for to talk and discuss about were;

1. Economic and Social Council also known as ECOSOC, the topic for these delegates was Fair Trade
2. Social Humanitarian Cultural Committee, these delegates had the pleasure to talk and discuss Dream Centre in Kabul, Afghanistan.
3. At last but not least: Human Rights Council with the topic Human Trafficking. And then particularly the human trafficking of Burmese refugees, also known as Myamar, for working in a Thai branch of a European sportswear factory. 

This last Council is the council I will give more information about what happened today.

First the meeting started with taking notice of which country took the effort to come to this assembly. The countries that came were: Australia, Burma, France, Iceland, Kenya, Mexico, Morocco, Peoples Republic of China, the Russian Federation, South Africa, Turkey and Venezuela. We had two madam Chairs to make sure there was order and respect for one and other.

All the countries were given the time to prepare a speech of 30 seconds about the topic. Every country needed to read there speech out loud to the other delagetes.

The first one to start was the Russian Federation. They recognized that it was a big problem, also in their own country. They said their were 50.000 women in their country alone who stroll on the streets in search of money. The said that the woman and children were the most likely to fall victim of Human Trafficking.

Next up was Burma. They said it was not what they wanted for the country. ‘The people who are victim of Human Trafficking are given promises about the future and the land the are going to. Most of the time they are promised a good job and freedom. Not always these promises come true. But Burma thinks that we need to sharpen the control for illegal and fake passports. That is where the problem is.’

Venezuela agreed with the Russian Federation about the victims of Human Trafficking. They were the only one who said that woman and children are being trafficked, is for the sexual industry. Woman and children who are being sold to men for their bodies and sex.

South Africa talked about the child soldiers that are being trafficked to their country. He did not acknowledge that it was possible that their were also children in his own country that are being trained into soldiers and that they are also being trafficked from his country to his neighbouring countries.   

The Peoples Republic of China says they see people equal. They understand the problem, but thinks there is a solution.

Mexico didn’t had a lot to say about the topic.

Kenya really wants to cooperate to solve this problem. It would like to see the countries join up and solve the problems in the world.

France made the suggestion to improve the system they already had. Why invent the wheel if it is already there?

Morocco said they respect they human rights and would like to cooperate.

Start a revolution is what Iceland proposed. Let’s cooperate and lets assembly.

The human rights that are being ignored is the concern of Turkey. They wanted more fair trials and more advise for the people that were fallen victim of human trafficking.

What I noticed during the making of the amendments and finding of allies is that Kenya, Iceland, Australia and France were very social end had some fun. They also talked to Morocco, Turkey and Burma.

The other island that I saw, was that of China, Russia and Venezuela. The made a amendment and called over Congo. I was surprised that Congo followed their orders to come over. I always thought that if you have a good idea that you are trying to find friends and allies to get your amendment approved.

A whole other story was Mexico and South Africa. It looked like they were making a plan to bomb the world. They were sitting together, not talking to anyone. So it will not come as a surprise that their amendment have been declined.

At last the final Resolution that have been accepted with 9-2 is the following:

Draft Resolution 1.2 on Further cooperation to tackle Human Trafficking and Forced Labor

The Human Rights Council,

Recalling the Universal Declaration on Human Rights of 10 December 1948, in specifically Article 4: “no one shall be held in slavery,” Article 9: “no one shall be subject to exile,” and Article 25: “the right for everyone to have a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family,”

Reiterating the Global Programme against Trafficking in Human Beings (GPAT) as it “assists countries in their efforts to combat this crime,”[1]

Aware of the atrocities committed by perpetrators of human trafficking resulting in forced labor through threats of violence, abduction and loss of organs,

Further Recalling that human trafficking is a crime under international law, interpreting it as a ‘crime against humanity,’ deriving from Article 7 of the Statute of the International Criminal Court, 

1. Strongly deplores the act of human trafficking and the perpetrators in their acts of violence, abduction, coercion and fraud on an ever increasing scale;

2. Disapproves of the lack action taken by States in detecting and prosecuting human trafficking perpetrators, by adjusting their border controls in order for more inspection to take place on checking illegal identity cards[01] ;

3. Calls for a Donor Conference on the issue of prioritizing the combatting of this crime against humanity[02] 

4. Further calls for the swift setting up of guidelines on the monitoring of this resolution;

5. Strongly urges States to allow United Nations Inspection Teams (UNIT) after recognition of the states concerned on approved parts of their territory in order to investigate whether States are actively attempting to combat human trafficking and detect the perpetrators thereof at their borders, both on people leaving the State as well as entering the State;

6. Asks the United Nations Security Council to interpret the concept of ‘Responsibility to [03] Protect’ in Human(itarian) Crises by giving possible warnings and convene about the reason not to allow UNIT on their territory[04] ;

7. Further urges States to consult with Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) such as Amnesty International on their knowledge of the matter;

8. Strongly encourages States to sign up to the Statute of the International Criminal Court in order to bring perpetrators to justice and to allow the Prosecutor on their territory along with the UNIT;

9. Considers it the role and responsibility of all governments to stimulate the development of Least Economically Developed Countries (LEDCs) to support LEDCs to make constructive use of their resources, by:

a. providing LEDCs with technical support to detect human traffickers,

b. offering LEDCs intelligence on human traffickers,

c. promoting the infrastructure and economy of LEDCs to help prevent human trafficking;

10. Decides to remain actively seized on the matter.

Analysis : Dream Centre in Kabul, Afghanistan

The main objective of the project is to create a place where children and young adults can freely express themselves in a safe, culturally aware environment. Dream Centre provides cultural and sport activities and facilities to underprivileged  children that do not have any other opportunities to develop their talents, abilities and simply have a bunch of fun. Teachers are locals as well.

The first DREAM Centre was established in April 2004 in Kabul (Afghanistan) in cooperation with the Polish Humanitarian Organization and a local partner, the Afghan Street Working Children and New Approach (ASCHIANA) 

·         At  11:40 am there has been a first  voting procedure for further calls for the swift removal of members of parliament from any Governmental of a State if they have used and continue to use private armies to their own benefits, thereby also prohibiting Private Military Companies.

There was a discussion that Iran started about the fact that the president of Afghanistan is a Taliban member. France defended Afghanistan by saying that they know about the Afghanistan president, but that this was before the war with the USA. Colombia agrees with Afghanistan, because, according to them they have a lot of power. The USA is against the investment  in a new government.
